Narbik’s Soup-to-Nuts Workbook Frame-relay Lab 5

Lab 5 - "Point-to-point, Multipoint and PPP" builds on the earlier labs with the addition of point-to-multipoint links and PPP encapsulation. Setting up point-to-point and multipoint interfaces was a breeze and I was able to do it without looking over the DocCD. However, I struggled to configure CHAP and had to look through the UniverCD to make any sense out of it. To make matters worse, I couldn't find Virtual Template on the DocCd and had to google a few terms. For your reference, Virtual-Template is located under "Dial Solutions" and now I can get to that without a fuss. Anyhow, once I was able to look up the configuration, it all made sense. Use the following steps to configure PPP for the link:
- remove the ip address from the physical interface
- create a virtual template and assign the ip address to it
- use ppp authentication chap under the virtual interface
- assign the dlci under the sub interface with the ppp keyword and use the virtual interface you just created
As you can tell, its pretty straight forward but if you don't know the logic behind it, it can become interesting
One more lab to go and I will be done with Frame-relay.
