"Lab 4 - Configuring Default routes" asks us to not configure any routing protocols on R1 and use a default route pointing towards R2. Then configure a static route on R2 for R1's loopback.  Then we were asked to inject a default route into the RIP domain so that other routers can get to R1's loopback.

Default route injection can be configured in three ways:

  • Default-information originate
  • Configuring a static default route, then redistributing that into the RIP routing domain
  • IP default-network command

Task 5 & 6 ask us to configure EIGRP between R1 and R2 and remove the RIPv2 configuration. Then we are required to inject a default route into R2's RIP domain. Basically this tests the default route we learned earlier rather than redistribution between the two routing protocols.

Task 7 requires that we use conditional default route injection so that when network 1.0.0.0/8 is in R2's routing table, R2 will inject default route into the RIPv2 domain. We will use an ACL and route-map to accomplish this task.
