:COM Selects Cisco to Enable Delivery of Ultra-High Speed Broadband

Cisco announced today that Japan’s Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (J:COM) has started receiving shipments of the Cisco® DPC3000 DOCSIS 3.0 Channel Bonded Cable Modem for use in its J:COM NET Ultra 160M Course broadband service, which offers download speeds of up to 160 Mbps. The Cisco DPC3000 was one of the first modems to be awarded CableLabs® Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS®) 3.0 certification.

By incorporating four bonded channels for both the downstream and upstream data, the Cisco DPC3000 can deliver downstream data rates in excess of 160 Mbps and upstream data rates up to 120 Mbps. This dramatic increase in speed will help take consumers to a new level of performance with faster access to on-demand, feature-rich entertainment and communications, while enabling service providers to optimize existing bandwidth.

The Cisco DPC3000 Channel Bonded Cable Modem is designed to meet the DOCSIS 3.0 specifications, which feature support of four bonded downstream channels and four bonded upstream channels. It is designed to be backward-compatible for use as a single-channel cable modem with DOCSIS 2.0, 1.1 or 1.0 networks. This comprehensive approach to interoperability makes the Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 Channel Bonded Cable Modem an excellent choice to support high-speed service, providing the potential for a migration path to even more advanced services for consumers as cable operators deliver the Connected Life.

In addition to DOCSIS 3.0-compliant cable modems, the Cisco downstream channel-bonding solution features the Cisco uBR10012 cable modem termination systems (CMTS) and Cisco xDQA-24 edge quadrature amplitude modulators (QAMs).
