After spending a week on BGP, I think I have a good understanding of the basic concepts of BGP. There have been a few gotchas and ohsnaps but over all I am satisfied by the way Narbik’s workbook has carried me through. I am still looking at IE Vol 1 but I think I am going to get done with these workbooks before starting on a different topology.
A few concepts that I didn’t mention in my previous notes:
- Outbound Route Filtering (ORF)
- Regular Expressions ( I really need to work on these)
- BGP Confederations
- Some Advance scenarios
- bgp fast-external-failover
- neighbor timer
- neighbor advertisement-interval
- neighbor update-source
- neighbor disable-connected-check
- neighbor ttl-security hops
- neighbor local-as
- neighbor no-prepend replace-as
- bgp maxas-limit
Over all BGP is under the belt but I have to do a few tough mock labs to bring me back to the reality. I will spend rest of the evening working with BGP and dedicate half day tomorrow wrapping it up. I would like to move on to IPV6 or Multicast so I can be ahead of the game. I would love to be in a situation where I know everything before stepping into Narbik’s class on August 11th 2008.
