Starting again – CCIE R&S 3rd Attempt

Blueprint — By CCIETalk on April 16, 2009 at 6:29 pm

As most of you know that I did not make it last month and then I was busy with wedding etc. Now I am back and read to roll for the 3rd time.

I am looking to attempt the lab either last week of May or first week of june. I just looked up the CCIE page and it appears that lab dates are not that difficult to schedule.

My main focus will be to cover the CCIE Written & Lab blueprint so I am able to answer the Open-ended questions. I still think I had them last time but Cisco thought otherwise. I will be working on 8-hour labs from IE's Vol 2 workbook while still reading the recommended book list.

My plan is to read the following again and take detailed notes:

  • CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification Guide (3rd Edition) (Exam Certification Guide) (Hardcover) by Wendell Odom (Author), Rus Healy (Author), Naren Mehta (Author)
  • Routing TCP/IP, Volume 1 (2nd Edition) (CCIE Professional Development) (Hardcover) by Jeff Doyle (Author), Jennifer Carroll (Author)
  • Developing IP Multicast Networks, Volume I (Networking Technology) (Hardcover)
    by Beau Williamson (Author)
  • Interdomain Multicast Routing: Practical Juniper Networks and Cisco Systems Solutions (Paperback) by Brian M. Edwards (Author), Leonard A. Giuliano (Author), Brian R. Wright (Author)
  • Cisco QOS Exam Certification Guide (IP Telephony Self-Study) (2nd Edition) (Exam Certification Guide) (Hardcover) by Wendell Odom (Author), Michael Cavanaugh (Author)
  • CCNP BSCI Official Exam Certification Guide (4th Edition) (Hardcover)
    by Brent Stewart (Author)
  • CCNP BCMSN Official Exam Certification Guide (4th Edition) (Hardcover)
    by Dave Hucaby (Author)

After I am finished reading the above books, I will record my notes into my Ipod so I can listen to them again. Once finished, I will go over the flash cards by Anthony and take the tests in the CCIE Written Certification Guide. I am still working on my schedule but my plan is to have a reading session every other evening and work on an 8 hour lab in between.

I also want to go over all the related FAQs on the Cisco Documentation Site. Today is April 16th 2009, so if I aim for June 16th 2009, I will have about 2 months to get this taken care of. I am being very positive and hopefuly this time I will be able to ace the lab along with the Open-ended questions.
