OPNET Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of solutions for managing networks and applications, today announced ACE Live VMon, a new solution for end-user experience monitoring that extends the visibility of application performance management into communications among virtual servers.

ACE Live is an end-to-end solution that spans monitoring, measurement, and detection of application performance violations, providing visibility of all transactions and users across the enterprise. The newest addition to the ACE Live family, ACE Live VMon, is deployed within a virtual machine and monitors communications to and from all the virtual servers running within a physical server.

With the introduction of more powerful servers, increasing numbers of virtual servers are being consolidated onto fewer platforms. Virtualization offers significant benefits, including reduced operating costs and greater flexibility in deploying applications. However, vital application performance management functions can be hindered because most management solutions lack visibility into communications among virtual servers residing within the same physical machine.

ACE Live VMon restores visibility of all the communications for the applications that are hosted on virtual servers, including communications within the physical server as well as traffic to and from systems outside the physical server. It offers the same industry leading real-time monitoring and troubleshooting as OPNET’s hardware-based ACE Live appliances, with analytics that automatically identify the root cause of application performance problems. ACE Live VMon offers a lower total cost of operation (TCO) than other solutions that require an external appliance for analyzing data, offering reduced power consumption and a smaller footprint.

“ACE Live VMon represents the latest step in OPNET’s strategy to ensure that its end-to-end application performance management solutions address the particular challenges of virtual computing environments”, stated Alain Cohen, President and CTO of OPNET. “Recently OPNET also released OPNET Panorama™ 6.0, a solution for real-time monitoring of Java and .NET applications with new and unique capabilities for fine-grain monitoring of resources and application behavior in VMware environments.”
