CCIE® (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) is the premier certification for networking professionals, and certifies an individual's networking skills at the expert level. Candidates who pass both of the required exams, one written and one in a hands-on lab environment, receive a CCIE certificate from Cisco Systems.

CCIE Routing & Switching Track

Certifies expert-level knowledge of networking across various LAN and WAN interfaces, and a variety of routers and switches. There are no prerequisites for CCIE certification, but at least three years of practical experience implementing, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting complex Cisco networks is recommended. You will also need a familiarity with Cisco hardware and Cisco networking solutions, extensive knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies, and an in-depth understanding of the protocols used on routers, switches, bridges, and security devices.

Step One: CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam

You must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam which covers networking concepts and some equipment commands before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam.

Step Two: CCIE Routing and Switching Lab Exam

The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to configure actual equipment and get the network running in a timed test situation. You must pass the lab within three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first lab attempt must be made within 18 months.

Certifies expertise with specific security protocols and components, as well as IP and IP routing. There are no formal prerequisites for CCIE certification. Other professional certifications or training courses are not required. Instead, candidates must first pass a written qualification exam and then the corresponding hands-on lab exam. You are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the topics in the exam blueprints and strongly encouraged to have three to five years of job experience before attempting certification. Effective April 20, 2009, important content changes will be implemented in the CCIE Security Lab exams. Candidates for lab exams scheduled April 20, 2009 or later should prepare using the v3.0 Lab Equipment and Software Versions. Candidates prior to April 20, 2009 should continue using the v2.0 Lab Equipment and Software Versions.

Certifies expert-level knowledge and skill for building an extensible Service Provider infrastructure to deliver rich managed services. There are no formal prerequisites for CCIE certification. Other professional certifications or training courses are not required. Instead, candidates must first pass a written qualification exam and then the corresponding hands-on lab exam. You must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam covering concepts and equipment commands related to packet-based networking infrastructure, before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam.

Step One: CCIE Voice Written Exam

You must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam covering those technologies and applications that comprise a Cisco Enterprise VoIP solution before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam.

Step Two: CCIE Voice Lab Exam

The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to get the VoIP solution operating in a timed test situation.You must pass the lab within three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first lab attempt must be made within 18 months.

The Cisco CCIE Wireless certification assesses and validates wireless expertise. Candidates who pass the CCIE Wireless certification exams demonstrate broad theoretical knowledge of wireless networking and a solid understanding of wireless local area networking (WLAN) technologies from Cisco, the market leader in WLAN technology.
