Free vSeminar on Multicast - Today at 4pm EST
Internetwork Expert has a free Multicast Vseminar today at 4pm EST. I know there are a few CCIE candidates that are not that good with multicast and this might help out. I will be attending the session and would like to recommend this to everyone.
Multicast under the belt!
I spent all day yesterday and half day today working the Multicast labs from Volume 5 NB WB. I must say that these will walk you through from Dense-mode to Sparse-Mode. Then Narbik will let you configure static RP, Auto RP and RP Filtering brings this section to an end. There were tons of “gotchas” but I was able to stumble my way through the labs. As others have pointed out, Multicast is not difficult. Fact of the matter is that we are not used to multicast. Almost everyone of us works with unicast routing all day long. With that said, I think reading a few white papers on multicast will definitely help. I ordered a multicast book today so I can read it while on the plane to Pasadena next week.
Narbik’s Bootcamp - Day 4 (RIPv2 & Multicast)
Narbik started the day with a brief but detailed lecture on RIPv2. If you are like me then you were probably thinking oh RIP is so easy, why even bother? Well there were a few things that I never studied before so this was a great opportunity for me to pick those up. As with BGP, he started RIPv2 by teaching us ways to optimize RIP and how RIP works. Narbik thinks that if we know how a protocol works, then we won’t have any problems making it work. We covered RIP filtering and he also taught us how to get the even and odd subnets by using a simple multiplication method. Read more
